About Liorno
Liorno is a meal calculator. You search for foods, adjust the amounts and see the nutrition facts for the whole plate, with charts. Then you take the result with you as a PDF, spreadsheet, image or link.
Why it exists
Adding up the calories in a lunch usually means opening a table, finding each food, multiplying and hoping you didn't slip a decimal. The tools that do it for you often ask for an account, mix data of unknown origin, or hide where each number came from.
Liorno does the opposite:
- No account. You open it and use it.
- It shows the source. Every value comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central, and the credit is on every page.
- It admits what it doesn't know. When a food has no value for a nutrient, the total says “at least” instead of pretending the value is zero.
- Your meal stays with you. The math happens on your device. The meal is not sent to any server of ours.
Who it's for
For anyone who wants to know what is on the plate, and for dietitians, coaches and cooks who need to build a meal in front of a client and hand the result over on the spot. Liorno is a lookup and math tool. It does not diagnose, prescribe a diet or tell you what you should eat.
What Liorno is not
- It is not a food diary or a diet app.
- It is not a tool of the USDA or of any government agency. Liorno is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the USDA.
- It is not a substitute for advice from a registered dietitian or a doctor.
- It is not a way to create labels for packaged food you sell. See the FAQ.
Who makes it
Liorno is an independent project by Daniel Gil, based in Guarda, Portugal. Contact: contact@liorno.com.
Cost and ads
Liorno is free and today has no ads and no advertising or analytics cookies. If ads ever appear, they will always be labeled as advertising, the privacy policy will be updated first and consent will be requested where the law requires it. See the privacy policy.
Where it's going
Today Liorno covers the foods in the USDA SR Legacy dataset. The plan is to add more databases and countries with the same care for the source. Suggestions and corrections are welcome at the contact above.
Important notices
This tool is for information only and does not replace the advice of a registered dietitian or a doctor. The values are averages from a government food composition database and can differ from the food on your plate.
The Daily Values (DV) used here are the ones the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sets for adults and children 4 years and older, based on a 2,000-calorie diet. They are reference values for food labels, not personal recommendations: your own needs may be higher or lower depending on your age, sex, weight, physical activity and health.
If you have diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, a food allergy or intolerance, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have or have ever had an eating disorder, talk to a health professional before changing what you eat based on numbers. This site does not prescribe diets or treat diseases.
